Today, as I was reading the newspapers in class, an interesting article caught my eye. It states that parents need not have to study to a high degree to have outstanding children. In my opinion, I feel that this is true indeed, and also feel that if the parents would be able to coach, motivate and encourage the child effectively, it will allow them to cope bothe academically and mentally. Having rich and highly-educated parents does not neccessarily mean that the child would grow up to be as outstanding as his parents. Instead, the parents might even unintentionally spoil the child and he would grow up being a spoiled brat who would not be as excellent as the parents.
Indeed, most students from Hwa Chong Institution and Raffles Institution have parents who are university graduates. However, I do not feel that having smart 'genes' is essential for people to succeed in life.Indeed, people from neighbourhood school also have an equal chance to succeed together with students who study in elite schools. The students just need to put in more effort to strive hard, and they would all be able to succeed
I disagree with you partially. It is indeed true that if one is willing to work and strive hard, one will be able to exceed. However, i have thought of a point of why there are more students from HCI and Ri with highly educated parents. I think it is because students with highly educated parents have a head start in their education as they are generally smarter. Also, their parents can help them in their studies when they are in need. Their parents will also be able to send them for "High-class" tuition classes as they are able to afford it.
ReplyDeleteHowever, this will only provide a head start for them and most likely, they will go on to top schools in Singapore because of the above factors.
I have to agree with you on your point that to succeed, people just need to put in more hard work. But will you really remember what you have learnt after you graduate from school? If you are not very smart and do not have good genes, you tend to just memorize the formulas and explanations for your homework. On the other hand, smarter people will be able to truly understand the formulas and explanations, hence, they tend to do better.
